There are a number of possible uses for the gas that is produced through the gasification of coal. Producing liquid transport fuels is one of the options that will be evaluated as part of the Feasibility Study. The diesel produced by this process is ultra-low in sulphur so has many of the environmental benefits claimed for bio-diesel.

The FuturGas Project plans to use gasification technology which will convert the Kingston lignite to syngas (synthetic gas) using oxygen and steam.
