How much lignite is there? The lignite deposit was comprehensively tested by Western Mining Corporation during the early 1980s with the drilling of approximately 550 boreholes to confirm the size and quality of the resource. Subsequent to this, Strike Oil Ltd (now through Hybrid Energy Australia), commissioned a re-evaluation of the lignite deposit. This resulted in the definition of a JORC (Joint Ore Reserves Committee) compliant Measured and Indicated Resource of 578 million tonnes of lignite. Additional quantities of lignite are known to exist from more sparsely drilled boreholes, but do not fall within the JORC guidelines for reporting coal resources. JORC compliant coal reserves will be re-confirmed as part of the Feasibility Study after relevant mine planning and coal utilisation studies have been completed. |
